At our first session of 2024, the Edinburgh Poverty Network discussed the role of further education in helping to end poverty in Edinburgh. The session was led by Nick Croft from Edinburgh College. He covered:

  • The role the college plays in helping students from low income backgrounds to learn and progress.
  • The challenges faced by students in accessing and staying in further education.
  • The support the college can offer, and needs more support with, to help students meet those challenges.

His presentation was followed by a Q&A and break-out rooms where it made for very interesting discussions. Poverty has a huge impact on people’s wellbeing and confidence, during the application process and whilst in education, but Edinburgh College are doing sterling work in trying to redress the balance.
